Caherleaheen Active School Week 2018-A Great Success!
Athletics with Paul Griffin/Harriers Thurs 26th
Again classes were timetabled to go to the halla.Paul Griffin put each class through their paces with an amazing selection of athletics activities.
Paul put Junior and Senior infants through their paces as they jumped over hurdles and skipped through speed ladders. High knees and box jumps were the order of the day! The children really enjoyed the high energy exercises.
Skipathon Friday 27th April
Each teacher was timetabled to take their class through several skipping activities .Pupils were asked to bring their own rope for individual skipping,long ropes were supplied by the school to do group activities like Under the Moon and Over the Stars and we organised to have novelty equipment on loan from the I.T like foam javelins and whistlers to incorporate in relays/circuits. Pupils were given skipping rhymes to learn(Age appropriate)in advance of the event the previous week.A broad range of skipping games and rhymes were laminated and placed on boards around the playground.They pupils were exhausted after it.
Gymnastics
Tuesday 24th April 1st ,2nd,3rd and 4th classes travelled by bus to Tralee Gymnasium.Host ,Teresa, and her team put the pupils through their paces .The photos say it all.Many pupils aswell as staff vow to join gymnastics classes in the near future
We had so much fun with the gymnastics and learned some great techniques and tips...
Athletics
Our children were lucky enough to get some great athletics training from a coach involved with Tralee Harriers. They got to practice some important techniques and finished off their session with relay races.
Zumba Monday 23rd!
We kick started our Active Schools Week by right with Linda Flannagan coming into school today to do two separate workshops with the pupils.The junior end of the school had a rigorous 25mins session followed by the senior half of the school, many of whom are already seasoned Zumba dancers or have plenty of aspirations!!!!Great fun was had by all and lots of pounds were shed by pupils and teachers alike in an effort to increase our overall fitness.
TABLE TENNIS
We had our first bout of table tennis today,Monday,the 1st day of Active Week.It just so happened to be raining today and as promised we'd have a league for 6th class during wet breaks in 3rd term.So we drew up a chart seeding people who had played before and formed a rectangle of benches around the table.We thought we'd start of mildly with a singles competition.....But let YE prepare for thee Ultimate Challenge against SNA Former World Champion?????
Skipathon
We rounded off Active Schools week with a skipathon for the whole school. There were lots of rhymes used such as Teddy Bear Teddy Bear. We also did some relays with javelin throwing and skipping on the spot.
School Clean Up
Today,Wednesday 25th April a selection of pupils from 5th and 6th helped Ms.Mary and Gemma to clean up all around the school grounds,up along both sides of the main road and over towards the river as part of the effort to be active .Thank you everyone involved.
Yoga!
Junior and Senior Infants grabbed their yoga mats this morning for a fun filled session with Ms. Adrienne. They learned various exercises and stretching techniques. The children showed great flexibility and balance. Great fun was had by all!!
Active Kingdom Wednesday 25th!
The children of Caherleaheen had a blast today with Rob McGovern from Active Kingdom. They played various games that challenged their fundamental movement skills. Warm up activities were enjoyed before the children attempted to balance beanbags while doing various movements and exercises. Huge thanks to Active Kingdom for giving up their time and imparting their knowledge to us. The children really enjoyed their day!

Senior Infants loving Active School Week!
Starting off Active Week with students from the IT
Second Class got off to a very active start Monday morning with a PE class with students from the IT Tralee. They learned some great basketball skills and then got to put them into practice in a basketball match. It was lots of fun.
