More Fundamental Movement Skills-FMS
We have had training and received resources based on the Fundamental Movement Skills that are vital for children’s development. These fundamental movements are the building blocks of all sports .
Developing the throwing skill...
Developing the jumping skill...
First Class were busy working on the skill of throwing and catching in pairs. This included throwing and catching with two hands, one hand & over head. We refresh our boards in our NEWLY painted Hall, clearly reminding all our teachers to keep Fundamental Movements in our PE plans. Three of our teachers attended training sessions in Fundamental Movement. They gave a Ted Talk during one of our Croke hours. Ms Ann highlights our Active Agenda at every meeting and the Active Flag Committee talk to students on the intercom, alerting them to the latest news, activities.

Cross Curricular: Physical Activities.
Our S.T.E.M. and S.E.S.E. lessons often involve physical activity. Maths week and other math activities throughout the year requires physical activity. We use Math Trails, around the building and outdoor. The Measurement Strand (length and time) invariably finds children measuring the hall and corridors, or measuring how long it takes to hop 30 or 60m. Our interest in our school environment consistently provides opportunities for children to garden, dig the soil, plant bulbs, harvest apples, sweep leaves and walk around Caherleaheen or other local beauty spots such as The Wetlands or jogging and timing our 2K in our local park. Our blackberry hunt was a huge hit. The children walked the roads with their families to pick and freeze their blackberries in anticipation of the grand opening of the Jam Factory, in our halla in December! They made 80+ jars of yummy am.
